Not only was this our first vacation as a family of three but it was our first time taking Kricket really anywhere. We didn’t know what to expect, so yes, we brought EVERYTHING including the kitchen sink!
I’ve compiled a list of everything that we used on a regular basis.
My favorite water shoes: I’ve had these for years and I found them on Amazon so they’re not very expensive. I love that they look like sneakers instead of weird mesh hugging socks! They come in a variety of colors and they’re also for men.
I’m always worried that I’m going to step on something … then there goes getting in the water for the rest of the trip. So yes, I am PRO water shoes.
My new favorite cover up: I’m a natural red head and yes I burn! My shoulders are always the part of me that gets torched so I wanted something that would cover up my shoulders.
I was in Vineyard Vines getting David a Father’s Day present and happened to see this one. It was a little bit pricier than I wanted to spend but it’s seersucker, which in my opinion is timeless, so it’s not like I won’t wear it next year. It’s also made out of the same material as their fishing shirts so it’s quick dry which I love.
This cover up is also a little fitted which is nice. I don’t look like I’m wearing a sloppy shirt. It also has the little buttons on the sleeves to hold your rolled cuffs up, which I really like. I hate messing with my sleeves!
Clear bags: I bought these awhile ago on Amazon and I love them. I have them in my purse (I put gloves, hand sanitizer, wet ones) in them. I also have them in the diaper bag one is a little first aid kit, another has clean pacifiers, another has toddler utensils and straws. I can’t stand paper straws and you never know what restaurants are going to have these days.
Kricket’s sunscreen + sponge: Since Kricket has Eczema our pediatrician told us to use Aveeno. I don’t have any complaints it seems to do very well and it doesn’t irritate her skin.
Another mom that I follow on Instagram did a story about how she applies her kids sunscreen by using a makeup sponge. Holy moly GAME CHANGER! I tell Kricket that we’re putting her makeup on (she watches me get ready) and she puts her little face up like ok get me! It’s the cutest.
The makeup sponge that I have below is the exact one that I use for my makeup. It’s under $4 on Amazon and it’s by far my favorite over Beauty Blender. I don’t feel like it’s as porous which means I don’t feel like I’m wasting as much makeup on the sponge.
My face lotion + sunscreen: If you read my vacation skincare routine then you know how much I love Aloe Up. When I first woke up in the morning I’d wash my face and use this lotion. It’s a lotion + sunscreen. Then after lunch when we went back to the beach I used the sunscreen.
I only used the Coppertone on my shoulders, arms, legs, chest and back.
Face wash: I used this face wash everyday after the beach. It was great at getting all of the gunk off from the day. Then I would apply the Aloe Up face lotion and then apply minimal makeup for dinner.
Sun hat: I have been raving about this hat for months! It’s wide enough to cover my shoulders and it has an adjustable band inside so you can get it as snug or loose as you prefer.
Sunglasses: I found these polarized unisex sunglasses on Amazon for under $20 (yes for all three) and I love them. David has really gotten me to fall in love with polarized sunglasses because it makes colors so much more vibrant.
I had the brown pair in my passenger seat and a bag got thrown on them. You know what no big deal because they weren’t expensive! I told you guys when I bought them that something always happens to my nice sunglasses on vacations so I was getting some cheapies! Dun Dun Dun … exactly!
Playpen: This was by far my favorite purchase! Kricket loved it because she could stand up and walk around in it. It also comes with a sun canopy but we took it off and put it under one of our tents. We felt like there was more of a breeze without the canopy.
Kricket’s Chair: This one was hit or Miss for her. It has a harness which she didn’t like. If I was going to get the playpen or the chair I’d get the playpen.
Coolers: Coolers are a must for the beach. Need I say more.
Rubbermaid Ice Pack: We’ve been using these for years. You no longer need ice. They don’t make your coolers heavy like ice and they don’t make your coolers leak!
Munchkin cups + lids: David and I always have our Yeti’s and Kricket always wants to drink out of them. I happened to find this one that’s just like her other cups except it looks like a Yeti! It was great down at the beach it kept her water nice and cold. The only thing that I don’t like about it is that I can’t see the level of water like I can in the plastic cups like we normally use.
I also found these lids that go over the lip of the cups. These cups don’t leak and yes they are spill proof but I like protecting the lip of the cup from germs.
Tents: This is the one that we got from Sam’s. It was the perfect size.
Goggles: My mom got Kricket these goggles from Neiman Marcus but I was just on their website they’re sold out. I got on the brand’s website and they have them in pink. If you don’t know about Bling2o check them out, they have some of the cutest swim accessories!
Fleece jacket: This is a find from my sister-in-law. All of us were in one house together and the thermostat was all over the place. She brought a couple of these light fleece jackets and I wish that I’d done the same. I only took a couple of sweatshirts. It would have been nice to put a little jacket over my outfit while we were making dinner. Instead I wore my dinner outfit for thirty minutes gave up because I was so cold and put jeans and a sweatshirt on.
This fleece jacket is the exact one that Stephanie has as well as the light pink one. She said that they run true to size. I’ll be ordering one shortly and I’ll get back to you on the fit.
Sweatshirt: I’m ALWAYS cold. I took so many cute outfits and I feel like I lived in the two sweatshirts that I took. I thought that I’d wear them late at night when we played board games NOT all day every day!
These are the sweatshirts that I wear. They’re monogrammed with my initials and I get them off of Etsy from Caroline Claire Monograms. The sweatshirts that she uses are the perfect weight.
Did I leave anything off? What are your favorite beach essentials?
